Ever since the curtains closed to rapturous applause on Julien Macdonald"s graduation show at the RCA in June 1996, his creative vision has inspired international acclaim for injecting a high dosage of glamour back into the fashion industry. Master couturier and living fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld was so impressed with Macdonald"s craftsmanship and genius with knits that he promptly made him head designer of all knits at the house of Chanel and his own label from 1996 98.
The greatest testament to Julien"s skill and reputation came in 2001 when one of the world"s oldest and most highly esteemed luxury fashion houses, Givenchy invited him to be become their Creative Director. Julien designed six collections a year, from haute couture to pret a porter and his collections were coveted by the richest and most beautiful women across the globe.
Three years later Julien returned to London to concentrate on his own label and his continued high profile presence in London ensures his is the hottest ticket at London Fashion week. In November 2006 Julien receive his highest accolade to date, an Order of the British Empire for his services to the fashion industry.
On November 2007, private investor Jamey Hargreaves announced a deal to build the Julien Macdonald business into a glamorous British luxury brand with Jamey as chairman and Julien as creative director. With plans of opening owned and partnership stores around the world as well as building a world leading design team and developing a complete and high quality product range, the company has also appointed Chris Spira as CEO to oversee the building of this British luxury goods brand.
Julien"s high octane, glamorous gowns have seduced a chorus of international starlets including Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Richie, Liv Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Kidman, Kate Winslet, Sarah Jessica Parker, Catherine Zeta Jones, Juliette Lewis, Zooey Deschanel, Paris Hilton, Anjelica Huston and Dita Von Teese.
