Born in the French Alps, Catherine Malandrino knew she wanted to be a designer from a very young age. After graduating from Esmod she worked in the Paris couture houses of Dorothee Bis, Louis Feraud, Emanuel Ungaro, and in the 90"s was the creative force at the French label "Et Vous" in Paris. In 1998 she met Bernard Aidan, her partner of love and life and followed her heart to New York City.
She began her love story with America when she presented the iconic Flag "collection in 2001. Her irresistible combination of patriotism, audacity, and femininity was acclaimed by the media.
That same year, she abolished boundaries, presenting her Hallelujah "collection in the renowned New York City landmark The Apollo Theater in Harlem. In 2002, cult sensation Sex and the City "featured Catherine"s Soho boutique.
Since then, Catherine has continued to show the world that femininity is a strength and that clothes are a means for women to unveil their individuality.
The fashion designer Catherine Malandrino currently designs two collections: her contemporary Catherine Malandrino line and her runway line Malandrino which features shoes and accessories including jewelry, handbags, and belts.
The company operates today 11 boutiques and the collections are represented in more than 400 doors around the world.
1998 She presented her first Collage "collection in New York.
2000 She designed the Flag "collection acclaimed by the media and worn by A list celebrities such as, Halle Berry, Julia Roberts, as well as Madonna on her world tour.
2001 She presented her show Hallelujah "at the famous Apollo theatre and designed a collection for close friend, Mary J. Blige.
2002 The cult sensation Sex in the City "featured Catherine Malandrino Soho boutique and Catherine designed a wardrobe for Sarah Jessica Parker.
2003 She created the Demi Moore comeback "dress. The same year the iconic Flag dress, which soon became a phenomenon and was selected to be exhibited at Zandra Rhodes" Fashion and Textile Museum in London.
2004 She opened the new Catherine Malandrino flagship store in the Meatpacking District.
2005 She launched her couture line, Malandrino.
2006 She opened a boutique in Paris, on St. Germain, featuring both collections and accessories including shoes and handbags.
2007 Catherine Malandrino staged a runway show with the Spring/Summer 2008 collection in Moscow to celebrate the opening of the Catherine Malandrino boutique in the prestigious TSUM department store.
2008 For the Fall/Winter 08 collection, Catherine debuted her first costume jewelry line. In May 2008, Catherine opened a new boutique at Akaretler in the heart of Istanbul, recreating all the codes of the Catherine Malandrino boutiques. Two additional boutiques will also open in the United States in August 2008, in Las Vegas and in Los Angeles. The Melrose Place boutique, Catherine Malandrino Maison, is a new concept store in addition to the other traditional retail spaces. The boutique will include a Catherine Malandrino cafe and library as well as an outdoor terrace, which will allow clients to experience the Malandrino lifestyle.
2009 Catherine Malandrino opened her first UK outlet, a shop in shop at renowned shopping empire Harrods of London. Her iconic flag dress is currently on display at FIT"s Fashion & Politics exhibit in New York City and she was chosen by the Savannah College of Art & Design to be a style mentor for their senior class. She was a guest judge on the full, second season of Bravo"s Make Me a Supermodel. The venerable liqueur Cointreau collaborated with Malandrino on a new package and won the 2009 Silver Pentaward for Design Packaging. In December, Catherine was featured in BMW"s print ad campaign for their new model Nomad based on her Spring/Summer 2010 collection.
2010 Catherine Malandrino continues to expand with the opening of a shop in shop in Bloomingdale"s New York flagship store. The Malandrino Fall/Winter 2010 Khan "collection was presented at the Chelsea Art Museum and for the first time, the Malandrino Resort 2011 collection was shown on the runway at the MoMA with Mary J Blige to benefit FFAWN. The Pratt Institute presented Catherine with the 2010 Pratt Institute Fashion Icon Award and she continued to serve as a mentor to the fashion students at SCAD (Savannah College of Art & Design). Catherine Malandrino outfitted a mannequin in her iconic flag dress as part of Sidewalk Catwalk on Times Square.
Today the Malandrino and Catherine Malandrino collections are also available in select department stores and specialized boutiques worldwide.
